In 1963 the British Minister for War John Profumo resigned from his position after confessing to lying about an affair he'd been having in 1961 with 19-year-old Christine Keeler, who had also been having an affair with a Soviet naval attache. Dubbed by the British press as "The Profumo Affair", the scandal caused such a stir given the sensationalism and national security implications that the affair helped bring down then-UK prime minister Harold Macmillan's Conservative Party government.
